Programme
I am appointed to the department of Cardiac Surgery in University Hospital of Ghent, actively involved in pediatric as in adult cardiac surgery. I have specific interest and expertise in congenital heart diseases and heart valve repair (aortic and mitral).
As head of the research laboratory in experimental cardiac surgery and cardio-circulatory physiology, I am involved in large animal models to study pathophysiological and therapeutical applications for congenital and acquired heart diseases.
As professor appointed to the faculty of Medical sciences, I share the lecture course on Artificial Organs for biomedical engineering, and also the course of Basic knowledge in Cardiac surgery for the postgraduate nursing education.
I am member of the board ( as well as past president) of the Belgian Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery since 2011. I am also member of the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, and associate editor of the Acta Chrirugica Belgica.
