Dr Tara Bharucha graduated from Cambridge University, and undertook paediatric training in the UK and New Zealand. She completed paediatric cardiology training in Southampton, UK, followed by a fellowship in pulmonary hypertension and heart transplant in Melbourne. Her subspecialty expertise includes advanced echocardiography and foetal cardiology, which she developed at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. After a short break to have twins, she accepted the post of consultant paediatric and foetal cardiologist at Southampton Children’s Hospital, where she is currently Clinical Lead.
Dr Bharucha is passionate about medical education and teaching in congenital echocardiography, and she is the senior faculty member of the CongenitalEcho.co.uk annual course on cardiac morphology and imaging. She is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Southampton.
Dr Bharucha is a Councillor for the Association of European Paediatric Cardiology, having previously been the Junior Members’ Councillor, and she is a founder member of the AEPC Educational Committee. She is a member of the European Association for Cardiovascular Imaging CHD Task Force and an examiner for the AEPC/EACVI in CHD echocardiography Accreditation process.
Dr Bharucha is an active volunteer in LMICs, in clinical and educational programmes in congenital heart disease. She has authored and led the first Multidisciplinary Training Program in Congenital Cardiac Care, which was due to launch as a Masters’ programme for the University of Medicine 1, Yangon, Myanmar (MOU signed 2019 - interrupted by political circumstances).
