Dr Andrew Sands MPhil, MB, BCH, FRCP, FRCPCH
Dr Sands is a consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in Belfast and Honorary Lecturer in Paediatrics at Queen’s University, Belfast.
Dr Sands qualified in 1992 and completed his training in paediatric cardiology in 2003, including a Fellowship in the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. A generalist now, Dr Sands previously worked in the area of catheter intervention, mainly in Belfast. His current sub-specialty interests include fetal cardiology and arrhythmia management. He has published original research on several topics, including screening for neonatal heart disease. This formed the basis of his MPhil thesis and has fuelled his ongoing interest in this field. Dr Sands has also co-authored articles and case studies on a range of subjects including remote diagnosis, fetal cardiac screening, exercise in children with heart disease and psychosocial aspects of congenital heart disease. Many of these papers have been the product of MD research supervised by Dr Sands. He also represents paediatrics on the Editorial Board responsible for the Northern Ireland Medicine Kardex.
